In September 1976 a group of employees at Alliance Freezing Works based on the outskirts of Invercargill formed a committee to operate and register a Credit Union to assist fellow seasonal workers with savings and loans and promote the Credit Union philosophy of "People Helping People".
The Alliance Group, originally called Alliance Freezing Company Limited is one of the world's largest processors of sheep meat and operates seven plants within New Zealand, the largest of which is Lorneville Plant, where the Credit Union is based.
Alliance Group Credit Union merged with NZCU Steelsands on the 1st October 2016 becoming the fourth branch of NZCU Steelsands, now trading as NZCU Alliance.
